The Chinese government has decided to implement a unilateral visa-free entry policy for Canada and the United Kingdom, its core US allies, until the end of this year. As a result, holders of Canadian and British passports will be able to enter China without a visa for up to 30 days for purposes such as business, travel, tourism, visiting relatives, exchange visits, and transit.

이번 조치는 상대국이 무비자를 적용해주지 않는 상황에서 중국이 선제적으로 비자 면제 정책을 시행한 것입니다. 이는 중국이 미국 대선을 앞두고 점진적으로 무비자 범위를 확대하고 있는 일환입니다. 2024년 11월 대선 직전에는 한국과 유럽 8개국을, 도널드 트럼프 대통령의 승리가 결정된 후에는 일본과 또 다른 유럽 8개국을 무비자 대상에 포함시켰습니다. 지난해에는 중남미 5개국과 중동 4개국으로 무비자 범위를 더 넓혔습니다.

This measure is China's preemptive implementation of a visa exemption policy, even though the counterpart countries have not applied visa-free entry. This is part of China's gradual expansion of its visa-free scope in the lead-up to the 2024 US presidential election. Just before the November 2024 election, China included South Korea and 8 European countries, and after Donald Trump's victory was decided, Japan and another 8 European countries were added to the visa-free list. Last year, the visa-free scope was further expanded to include 5 Latin American and 4 Middle Eastern countries.
