금소원이 신설될 경우 금융사의 규제 부담이 커지고 금융감독 체계 전반에도 적잖은 변화가 예상된다. 금융위원회(금융감독 정책)와 금융감독원(금융감독 집행)을 하나로 합치는 금융감독위원회의 부활 가능성도 거론되지만 이는 아직 검토 단계에 머무르고 있다는 전언이다.

If the FCPA is established, the regulatory burden on financial institutions is expected to increase, and there will be significant changes to the overall financial supervision system. The possibility of reviving the Financial Supervisory Commission, which would merge the Financial Services Commission (financial supervision policy) and the FSS (financial supervision execution), is also being discussed, but it remains in the review stage.

정부 조직개편에 정통한 한 관계자는 "(금감원에서) 소비자보호기구를 별도로 떼어내는 건 큰 틀에서 정리가 됐다"고 말했다. 이는 금융소비자보호기구의 독립성을 강화하겠다는 이 대통령 공약과 맥을 같이한다. 이 경우 금융위는 사실상 해체 수순을 밟게 된다.

An official familiar with government reorganization said that "separating the consumer protection organization from the FSS has been finalized in broad terms." This aligns with President Yoon's campaign promise to strengthen the independence of the financial consumer protection agency. In this case, the Financial Services Commission would effectively be dismantled.

금융소비자보호기구 독립 논의는 이전 정부에서도 꾸준히 제기됐다. 하지만 복잡한 법 개정이 필요한 사안인 데다 새 정부 출범 이후 국정과제 우선순위에서 밀리면서 개편 시도는 번번이 무산됐다.
