팔공산 도학동 계곡에서는 약 70년간 무속 기도처가 불법으로 운영되어 왔으며, 이곳에 축적된 훼손이 생태계 복원의 시급한 과제로 대두되었다.

For approximately 70 years, shamanic prayer sites operated illegally in Doehak-dong valley in Palgongsan, and the accumulated damage at this location emerged as an urgent task for ecological restoration.

5월에 국립공원공단은 제단과 촛대를 포함한 불법 구조물 92개를 철거하는 대규모 정화 작업을 실시했으며, 이와 동시에 콘크리트 폐기물을 비롯한 356톤의 폐기물을 제거했다.

In May, the National Park Service conducted large-scale cleanup work, demolishing 92 illegal structures including altars and candle holders, and simultaneously removed 356 tons of waste including discarded concrete.

이러한 가운데 계곡 곳곳에서 옮겨졌던 자연석들을 원래의 위치로 복구하는 작업도 병행되었으며, 6월의 복원 사업 완료 이후 불과 두 달 만에 생태계의 변화가 두드러지게 나타나기 시작했다.

Concurrently, natural stones that had been moved throughout the valley were restored to their original locations, and within just two months after the completion of the restoration project in June, changes in the ecosystem began to emerge distinctly.

6월 복원 사업 이후 팔공산국립공원 계곡에서는 포유류 6종과 조류 11종이 기록되었으며, 그 중에서도 멸종위기 2급으로 지정된 담비가 계곡으로 돌아와 다음 달 14일에 다시 목격되었다.

Following the June restoration project, six mammal species and eleven bird species were documented in the Palgongsan National Park valley, and notably, the musk deer—designated as Grade 2 endangered species—returned to the valley and was observed again on the 14th of the following month.

참매 역시 멸종위기 2급 야생동물로서 복원된 계곡에서 휴식하는 모습이 포착되었으며, 원앙, 쇠백로, 왜가리 등 다양한 조류도 계속해서 발견되고 있다.

The crested ibis, also designated as a Grade 2 endangered species, was spotted resting in the restored valley, and various other bird species including mandarin ducks, little egrets, and gray herons continue to be discovered.

국립공원공단은 향후 무속 활동과 불법 진입을 지속적으로 방지하면서 훼손 지역에 대한 체계적 관리와 생태계 모니터링을 지속할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

The National Park Service stated that it will continue to prevent shamanic activities and illegal entry while conducting ongoing systematic management of damaged areas and ecosystem monitoring.
