Simcheongjeon
옛날 한 마을에 심봉사 라고 불리는 장님에게 심청이라는 착하고 이쁜 딸이 있었습니다.
Once upon a time in a village, there was a blind man named Simbongsa who had a good and sweet daughter named Simcheong.
심청이는 장님인 아버지를 위해 돈도 벌러 다니고 집안일도 해가며 아버지에게 효도하며 살아가고 있었습니다.
Simcheong was living a life of filial piety to her father by making money and doing housework for her blind father.
어느날 심봉사는 매일 고생하는 딸 생각에 마음이 아파 딸에게 도움이 되고자 자리를 박차고 나왔는데, 눈이 보이지 않아 길을 가다가 발을 헛디뎌 개울에 빠지게 되었습니다.
One day, Simbongsa was heartbroken at the thought of her daughter, who suffered every day, and he left his seat to help her daughter, but because he couldn’t see, he tripped and fell into the stream.
이걸 본 한 스님이 심봉사를 구해주고 눈을 뜨고 싶으면 공양미 300석을 시주하면 눈을 뜰 수 있다고 하자 심봉사는 무턱대고 그렇게 하겠다고 약속을 하고 스님은 홀연히 사라졌습니다.
A monk who saw this saved Simbongsa and said that if he wanted to open his eyes, he could open his eyes by offering 300 sacks of offering rice, and Simbongsa promised to do so recklessly, and the monk disappeared suddenly.
심봉사는 눈을 뜰 수 있다는 희망때문에 덜컥 약속을 해버린 자신을 원망했습니다.
Simbongsa blamed himself for making a promise in hopes of opening his eyes.
왜냐하면 가난한 집안 형편에 300석 씩이나 공양할 돈이 없었기 때문이였습니다.
Because he was poor and could not afford to pay 300 sacks of offering rice.
매일 근심걱정에 시달리는 아버지를 보는 심청이는 아버지가 요즘 걱정이 많은지 이유를 물어보았습니다.
Simcheong, who sees her father suffering from anxiety every day, asked why he is worried these days.
심봉사는 이야기 하기를 망설였지만 이내 공양미 300석에 대한 이야기를 하게 되었습니다.
Simbongsa hesitated to talk, but soon he talked about 300 sacks of offering rice.
효녀 심청이는 아버지의 눈을 뜨게 하고 싶었습니다.
The filial daughter Simcheong wanted to open her father’s eyes.
때마침 중국 상인들이 인당수를 지나야 하는데 물살이 너무 강해 바다의 용왕님께 제물로 어린 처녀를 바친다는 소식을 듣고 심청이는 공양미 300석에 몸을 팔기로 했습니다.
Upon hearing that Chinese merchants had to pass Indangsu, but the current was so strong that they should offer a young maiden as a sacrifice to the Dragon King of the Sea, Simcheong decided to sell herself for 300 sacks of rice offerings.
떠나기 전날 아버지께 맛 좋은 음식을 차려드리고 공양미 300석을 공양한 뒤 어선을 타고 가 인당수로 뛰어 내렸습니다.
The day before she left, she cooked her father a delicious meal, made an offering of 300 sacks of rice, and jumped off a fishing boat into the water.
시커먼 바닷물에 빠진 심청이는 정신을 잃었고 용왕님을 만났습니다.
Simcheong, who fell into the black sea, lost his mind and met the Dragon King.
용왕님은 심청이에게 그 간의 자초지종을 들은 뒤 사정이 딱한 심청이를 연꽃으로 바닷물 위로 심청이를 띄워 줍니다.
After hearing the whole story from Simcheong, the Dragon King lifts Simcheong over the seawater with a lotus flower.
물 위로 떠오른 심청이는 바다를 지나가던 왕과 결혼하게 되어 왕비가 되었습니다.
Simcheong, who rose above the water, married a king who was passing by the sea and became a queen.
왕비가 된 심청이는 아버지 생각에 늘 마음이 편하지 않았습니다.
Simcheong, who became a queen, was not always comfortable with the idea of her father.
그래서 왕에게 요청하여 전국의 봉사들을 초청하는 잔치를 열어서 아버지를 찾게 됩니다.
So he asked the king to invite blind people from all over the country to find his father.
아버지를 보자마자 심청이는 아버지를 불렀고 죽은 줄로만 알았던 딸의 목소리에 깜짝 놀란 심봉사의 눈이 번쩍 뜨였습니다.
As soon as she saw her father, Simcheong called her father, and Simbongsa’s eyes opened as he was surprised by his daughter’s voice, which he thought was dead.
후에 심청이와 아버지는 오래오래 행복하게 잘 살았다고 합니다.
Later, Simcheong and her father lived happily ever after.
